Privacy Statement

The Dutch Companion Animal Database Foundation (NDG), located at Het Spoor 50, 3994 AK Houten, the Netherlands, registered with the Chamber of Commerce under number 41215934, maintains a database in which a pet’s electronic identification number is linked to the owner’s address details.

We assure you that we handle the collection, use, and storage of your personal data with great care. This privacy statement outlines how we process the information you provide to NDG.

Your data is collected, processed, and stored in the database managed by NDG. The purpose of this database is to reunite lost pets with their rightful owners.

NDG processes your personal data because you use our services and/or because you have provided the information yourself. By registering your pet in our database, you agree that we may collect and store your data for the following purposes:

  • Your name, address, and place of residence are used to send you a certificate.
  • Your phone number(s) are used to contact you if your lost pet is found.
  • Pet information is collected to enable matching with a report.
  • The electronic identification number is used to link the pet to its owner.

By accepting this privacy statement, you explicitly give consent for your data to be shared with the finder of your pet (usually a veterinarian, an animal ambulance employee, or an animal shelter), intermediaries handling data for us, and potential successors of our organization. Your data will only be used for the aforementioned purposes. Finders of your pet may only access (some of) your details after entering or providing your pet’s identification number. These details include: species, pet’s name, residence, and the phone number(s) you have provided.

Your data will be retained as follows:
Animal Type – Retention Period:

  • Dog – 25 years
  • Cat – 30 years
  • Horse – 50 years

Upon notification of a pet’s death, the data will be removed from the database as soon as possible.

We rely on you to ensure that your data is complete, accurate, and up to date. Please notify NDG immediately of any changes using the (online) change form available on our website.

Accessing, Modifying, or Deleting Your Data
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Since we only process the personal data you have provided yourself, you can easily view or correct your data on our website using your safecode. You can send a request to delete your data, withdraw consent, or object to data processing to info@ndg.nl. To ensure the request is made by you, please include a copy of your ID with your request. In this copy, please black out your photo, MRZ (machine readable zone), passport number, and citizen service number (BSN) to protect your privacy.
